Balance, what balance lol...
I've been pretty shit at balancing anything in the past
To me - life is a crazy ass juggling act!
Pretty much like it looks for this poor little wasp below...
Juggling motherhood, wifehood (is that a word lol), the rest of my family, friends, building a business...
... the list goes on & on, as I expect it does for you too.
Whenever I hear people talking about how they've got a perfectly balanced life (I think - huh good for you!!!)
But I don't think I'm ever going to get everything perfectly balanced!
Life's A Juggling Act But We Have To Try & Maintain Some Balance In Order To Stay Healthy...
And that's ok!
I've excepted that I'm never gonna be able to balance it all...
I'm a juggler!
I juggle a LOT of things - that's my life...
And my days don't go as planned on many occasions!
This is why I love this quote below:
I'm happy to be juggling whatever gets thrown in my face everyday!
(yep, sometimes that's a mushed up banana or some spat out juice - courtesy of my two year old).
That being said, as much as I juggle things, it's important to try & get some kind of balance in all aspects of our lives.
That or we'll go crazy.
Richard Branson says:
"The reason I can juggle a lot of things is because I find there's no separation between "work" & play. It's all living to me".
I love Richard Branson lol...
He's an amazing entrepreneur who is inspiring to me.
I'm jealous of my husband because he got to meet him a few years ago.
Maintaining a healthy & balanced life is essential for our happiness & well being, so we all have to try & get things a little more settled.
So why not try some of these things, so that we can calm down & get off the juggling wheel for a while...
Step Away from the Technology!
Our world is full of amazing technology & we're surrounded by all kinds of distractions.
The digital era means we have access to a ton of incredible things.
Smartphones, computers, tablets, Smartwatches, laptops, apps...
The list goes on & on!
But although it's almost essential to have these things, we still need to have some downtime away from them.
Turning them off for a day or two (and that's completely staying away from them) will give you a chance to switch off & reboot.
I know for us entrepreneurs, being on our smartphones & laptops is part of who we are, but it really isn't going to affect anything that much, by just having a day or two completely free of them.
After I've had a day or two away from my smartphone & laptop, it's amazing how rejuvenated & refreshed I feel.
New ideas & inspirations bloom when technology isn't clouding my brain.
You should try it & see how different it makes you feel.
Yes it's a bit weird & surreal at first, but then it's quiet & peaceful & you find other things to do with your time, like taking a walk or sitting & ACTUALLY talking to your partner (I know crazy huh lol).
What's Going on In Your Life Right Now!
You can't get a balance on your life if you don't know what's going on in it.
When things get crazy & you're juggling a lot of stuff, everything can get hazy, so it's important to sit down & take a look at it all.
Look at what makes you feel out of balance.
Is it that you're working all the time & not giving enough time to your family.
Is it that you're taking care of kids constantly & you don't seem to be able to socialise or do anything else you want to do.
Are you exhausted & can't even get a cup of tea or a 10 minute bath in peace & ALONE!
Are you not sleeping properly or struggling to get up in the morning, because you're drained of energy.
Are you working, taking care of your family & just generally trying to keep your head above the water, both physically & mentally.
Whatever it is, you have to sit down & acknowledge it first.
Write it down - this always helps me.
I'm a big advocate for the old writing things down.
If you're saying YES to any of the above, you're probably feeling slightly off balance.
I know I have a few of them for sure!
Making the Decision to Change Is a Start
Saying "I need more balance in my life" is where you start.
As I've said above, life isn't about getting the perfect balance...
I'm not even sure "perfect Balance" even exists.
We have to juggle life as that's just the way it is.
But when you feel constant chaos, this is when you need to make a change.
For you & your health!
For your family & the people who love & care about you.
A decision to make a change is powerful & will make you instantly feel better about yourself & your life.
Say "NO" to a Lot of Things
It's okay to say NO!
Part of the reason we take on so much is because we're either scared or too kind to say no!
But sometimes saying NO has to be done.
You aren't superhuman & you can't take on everything.
Be ruthless & think about YOU for a change.
Saying no to things that aren't essential & don't bring anything to your life is okay.
Don't feel guilty (I'm guilty of feeling guilty a lot & it's so annoying)
You are you & that you is allowed to say no!
Saying no will give you a sense of empowerment & will be a step towards helping gain that balance.
Look at your health
I know we all probably think we take care of our health - but do we really!
We may take a lemsip or two when we have a cold.
But it's very important to pay attention to what's going on with our bodies.
With the juggling of life comes stress, anxiety, overwhelm along with many other things.
Don't let your health slip so that the only way you acknowledge it, is when you have a health crisis & end up in the hospital.
Being healthy all adds to the balance & affects our every day life.
So the good old eat right, exercise & sleep well are said over & over for a reason - they work!
Goal Setting is Essential - in ALL areas of your life
Having goals to achieve all helps to regain balance in your life.
This isn't just about having a new year's resolution to lose a few pounds!
You need to set goals in every area of your life.
Set a goal to spend more quality time with your partner or kids (a set evening a week or a play date one day a week) & stick to it.
Say you're only going to work 8 hours a day, rather than 15 (entrepreneurs forget the time & tend to work all hours).
If you're in a job, agree to not take on so much overtime or say to yourself, when it's time to leave the office - you leave the office!
Don't stay there another couple of hours - what are you really achieving apart from more stress, tiredness & a narky partner.
Set some financial goals - whether it be a savings goal or an amount you want to make in the next 3 months.
Having these goals will give you a purpose & balance things out.
Things won't feel so chaotic when you have something set to reach & when you do reach a goal - it will feel great!
